Where to live in Australia?
Sorry but leaving in Australia's cities is pricey. You are ooking for warm weather so I'll recommend Brisbane, Gold coast, its warm there all the time and there is lots to see. Then Perth is warm too but not so much to explore then if you can stand some cold during winter (obviously not as cold as UK), there is Geelong in Victoria, housing is not too pricey, its at the coast, has lots of shopping centres, good schools, university. I can call it a lovely modern country town and it is not far from Melbourne city, about 40 minutes drive, and there is a train to Melbourne city everyday and Melbourne has lots of stuff to do, so yes, if you dont mind a little cold during winter, then Geelong, Victoria is your town. And I must add, it is a lot livelier than Canberra. Ive always found Canberra quite dull. One thing is housing in the major cities is all on the high side, unless you want to live a fair distance from the CBD.
