Why do conservatives continue to push for legislation that they know are irrational and will be (continued)?

defeated or repealed in the future anyway? I'm not saying that liberals have a moral superiority over conservatives, but it doesn't make sense to me when conservatives with irrational beliefs insist they are right just because "the bible says so" when critical thinking has proven them wrong the vast majority of the time. What part of "progressive common sense beats old mythological ideas" don't they get?
