Help with buying first car.?

My limit is around 5,000 and I want a good first car. I found a Volkswagen Jetta GLS for 5,000 but it has 125,000 miles on it. I also found a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta GLS for 2,900 with 136,000 miles on it. I have heard all kinds of stories of how they are unreliable and I am not sure if I should buy one now, So I started looking at Honda's and found a 1995 Honda Accord for 2,900 with 139,000 miles on it. The last car that I found was a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage with 177,000 miles on it for 1,500. I'm not sure if I should just keep saving my money or buy one of the above.
